Biography
Mathieu Poterie is a pianist, composer and music producer.
Trained at the Aix-en-Provence conservatoire, where he won a piano prize in contemporary popular music in 2011, he began his career accompanying ballets and prestigious institutions: the Ballet Preljocaj, the Ballet National de Marseille, and conservatoire classes in Aix-en-Provence, Paris and at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. From the outset, this stage and teaching experience nurtured a distinctive sensitivity to movement, to dialogue between the arts and to the development of original, creative music. Alongside this academic path, he developed his own composition projects. His world lies at the crossroads of electronic music, acoustic piano and contemporary orchestral writing. His influences span an eclectic range – from Radiohead to Aphex Twin, as well as Rival Consoles and Shai Maestro – reflecting a strong taste for blending electronic textures, rhythmic intensity and instrumental subtlety. He is currently devoting much of his creative energy to Ciels, his new project. Today, composing and producing are at the heart of his work. He writes music for film and video, and works with other artists as a producer, most recently with Yael Naim and David Donatien. On stage, he enjoys varying the setting: sharing intimate projects such as a bossa nova band with friends, or accompanying artists such as Emel in more ambitious productions.
