Biography

Julie Robard-Gendre was admitted to the singing department of the Paris Conservatoire (CNSM) in 2003, in Mireille Alcantara’s class, alongside the harmony and counterpoint studies she had begun there in 2000, and went on to refine her art with Yvonne Minton, Waltraud Meier, Agnès de Brunhoff and Elene Golgevit.

After winning her singing prize with flying colours, she began performing on many French and European stages: the opera houses of Paris, Lille, Marseille, Nice, Rennes, Toulouse, Tours, Saint-Étienne, Bordeaux, Rouen, Monte-Carlo, Nantes, Bern, Lausanne, Liège... Recent years have brought major role debuts: Ariadne auf Naxos (the Composer), La clemenza di Tito (Sesto), Carmen (title role), Orphée et Eurydice (Orphée), La Belle Hélène (title role), La finta giardiniera (Ramiro), Hamlet (Gertrude), Der Zwerg (Ghita), Nabucco (Fenena), Cendrillon (Prince Charming), Don Quichotte (Dulcinée)…

Recent projects include Carmen at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie, the tour of Falstaff directed by Denis Podalydès in Luxembourg and at the Théâtre de Caen, Marguerite in La Damnation de Faust at the DomStufen-Festspiele in Erfurt, and Herodias in Strauss’s Salome at the Opéra de Metz.

The 2024/2025 season saw her role debuts as Venus (Tannhäuser) at the Korea National Opera and Santuzza (Cavalleria rusticana) at the Opéra de Saint-Étienne and in Bern. She returned to the title role of La Belle Hélène in Michel Fau’s production at the Opéra de Tours and, in September 2024, recorded a song by Mel Bonis with the WDR Symphony Orchestra conducted by Joseph Bastian.

The 2025/2026 season focuses on 20th-century repertoire: she returns to Philip Glass at the Opéra de Nice (Satyagraha), directed by Lucinda Childs, and then at the Philharmonie (Akhnaten). She then makes her debut at the Opéra-Comique in Paris in Matthias Pintscher’s new opera, Nuit sans aube. She sings Urgèle in Charles Silver’s La Belle au bois dormant (a Palazzetto Bru Zane production) and ends her season in Avignon in the title role of Offenbach’s La Belle Hélène. She also sings the alto solo in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony.

Role debuts planned for 2026/2027: Eboli in Verdi’s Don Carlos, Posthumia in Massenet’s Roma and Amneris in Verdi’s Aida.
