Biography
After a comprehensive musical education (piano, chamber music, accompaniment, and a master’s degree in musicology on the composer Louise Farrenc), Marion Liotard, guided by her teacher Pierre Morabia, discovered in accompaniment an extraordinary profession – one that makes it possible to express oneself in many musical styles and to share music with a wide variety of partners.
The vocal repertoire, with its fascinating literary dimension, particularly caught her attention, and after winning a First Prize in accompaniment at the CRR de Marseille in 2004 she specialised as a pianist and vocal coach.
As vocal coach at the CNIPAL from 2009 to 2014, she shared her enthusiasm, energy and talent with young opera singers who had come to Marseille from all over the world to launch their careers. There she accompanied many masterclasses: Yvonne Minton, Sandrine Piau, Patricia Petibon, Inva Mula, Marie-Ange Todorovitch, Louis Langrée…
She has continued ever since to devote herself to preparing opera singers and to collaborating with many of them on musical projects (including soprano Anaïs Constans: Victoires de la Musique 2015 and BBC Cardiff Singer of the World 2015…).
She performs regularly in song recitals at various opera houses (Marseille, Avignon, Toulon, Saint-Étienne, Bordeaux, Limoges…) and at many festivals (Festival de Radio France, Chorégies d’Orange…).
Deeply committed to the music of our time, in June 2010 she took part in founding Act’tempo, an association dedicated to developing new music. She premiered Lionel Ginoux’s “Un brasier d’étoiles” (song cycle) in 2010 and his “Médée Kali” (chamber opera) in 2013.
The album “Un brasier d’étoiles” (recorded in July 2016), featuring songs by Henri Tomasi and Lionel Ginoux, was acclaimed by critics (4 stars, Classica, June 2017).
At the root of her calling as a musician lies a question about the place of women in artistic creation. Marion Liotard therefore explores with passion the work of many women composers and the literary thought of women writers, in various forms of recitals and music-and-literature shows.
