Biography
French baritone Yoann Dubruque is one of the most promising young baritones of his generation. He made his debut in 2017 in the title role of Don Giovanni at the Mozart Midsummer Festival in Brussels.
His career has since developed rapidly: he has sung in Bern (Don Giovanni), in Avignon (the title roles in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas and in Le nozze di Figaro), at La Monnaie/De Munt in Brussels (Les Contes d’Hoffmann), at the Aix-en-Provence Festival (world premiere of Orfeo & Majnun), in Dijon (Rameau’s Les Boréades with Emmanuelle Haïm), in Lille (Campra’s Idoménée), in Bordeaux (Moralès in Bizet’s Carmen) and at the Opéra-Comique in Paris, where he was a member of the “Troupe Favart” ensemble (Thomas’s Hamlet, Boieldieu’s La Dame blanche, Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette…). In 2021 he received the Malvina and Denise Menda grant (Fondation de France).
He went on to sing Nourabad in Bizet’s Les Pêcheurs de perles at the Philharmonie de Paris and in Montpellier, Neptune in Idoménée at the Berlin Staatsoper, and Stárek in Jenůfa and Moralès in Carmen at the Opéra de Rouen, and gave several recitals at the Opéra-Comique in Paris and the Grand-Théâtre de Bordeaux.
Lately he has sung Mercutio (Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette) in Hong Kong, Oreste (Grétry’s Andromaque) at the Opéra de Saint-Étienne, Germont (Verdi’s La traviata) at the Marmande festival, Moralès with René Jacobs (a European tour of Carmen, notably alongside Sabine Devieilhe) and Aeneas at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées (Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas). He has also made his Italian debut at La Fenice in Venice in Offenbach’s Les Contes d’Hoffmann.
Upcoming projects include Marcello in Puccini’s La bohème, Donner in Wagner’s Das Rheingold and Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana…
His discography includes Ô mon bel inconnu (Reynaldo Hahn) and Maître Péronilla (Offenbach, Bru Zane CDs), Hamlet (Erato DVD) and Les Boréades (Rameau, directed by Barrie Kosky, Naxos DVD).
A new album, Massenet’s Ariane (Palazzetto Bru Zane), is now available.
Yoann graduated with distinction from the Bordeaux Conservatoire, where he studied with Maryse Castets.
