4 women, 1 piano: a quirky, committed, feminist recital that breaks the codes of opera, to (re)discover the music of women composers past and present.
Director’s note
Committed artists, the musicians of the Quatuor Ariane devised a recital devoted to women composers, in step with the rediscovery of women’s musical heritage. They wanted to root it in the present by commissioning original works from today’s women composers, written specially for their ensemble.
On stage, the rigour of the operatic repertoire meets contemporary stagecraft. Theatre, clowning and dance blend with singing to play with conventions, shift the frame and reveal the blind spots of music history. With humour and high standards, the show dismantles imposed frameworks, denounces inequality and celebrates free spirits.
An off-piste classical recital, interactive and alive, accessible to seasoned music lovers and the simply curious alike. Post-show talks and workshops introducing classical singing, for schools or families, can accompany the performances.
